Welcome to Anchored Not Anxious. This is three minutes to anchored. The subject: At the Table with Jesus
Discouragement. There are days we are so susceptible to it. Unexpected events sabotage the start of your week, and the end looks equally bad; this causes discouragement. Or it feels like the world is against you and nothing seems to work out.
In these moments, try to reset your attitude and thoughts with some imagery.
Imagine a room with two large buffet tables. The table on the right is full of steaming bowls and platters of unusual food. The presentation is delightful, but the appetizers, casseroles, vegetables, and fruits do not look familiar.
You look toward the table on the left and there every bowl and platter contain food you're used to consuming for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.
It takes only a second and you quickly walk to the left side of the room.
In Psalm 23:5, it says, “You, Lord, prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”
One thing we know for certain, the enemy is present.
The bountiful buffet on the left represents your usual mental dialogue and attitude during stress or disappointment. Discouraging thoughts such as “it’s impossible”, “I’ll never”, “I can’t” or self-condemnation and shame are either self-generated or prompted by the enemy.
Satan wants you to feed on whatever makes you feel discouraged and ill-equipped.
Jesus serves only hope, truth, possibilities in Him, grace, peace, forgiveness, rest, and courage. All of it anchors you to God when things are falling apart.
Sometimes we get so used to grabbing what the enemy suggests we forget we have other options.
The next time a storm of discouragement tries to take over your heart and mind. Imagine a table. A table Jesus has set for you. Just the two of you. Go to Him and get what you need.
