Centering Prayer for Emotional Balance
What if you could reset your entire emotional and spiritual state in just a few minutes? That's the power of centering prayer.
In this episode, I guide you through a specific centering prayer practice based on Jeremiah 17:7-8—a prayer that reminds you to root yourself in God’s strength. I'll show you how to coordinate this prayer with your breathing to create a rhythm that calms your mind, settles your emotions, and grounds your body.
We'll explore why saying "I trust the Lord" in present tense (not future tense) makes all the difference, and how this assertive statement affects both you and the spiritual world around you.

Centering prayer is how you return to your core identity. It’s a remembrance that you are made in the image of God. His breath in you. His Spirit in you.
Centering prayer can be a verbal prayer or a silent one. Silent prayer helps you use coordinating breath.
The centering prayer for this practice comes from Jeremiah 17:7-8. For the purpose of the prayer I have paraphrased the verses.
The prayer goes: Blessed are those that trust in the Lord and make him their hope and confidence. I trust the Lord.
Do this with me now using the silent prayer method. You will start with an inhale as you silently pray in your mind. Follow my lead.
Breathe in “Blessed are those”
Breath out “that trust in the Lord”
Breath in “and make him”
Breath out “their hope”
Breath in “and confidence”
Breath out “I trust the Lord.”
As you repeat the prayer you will develop a rhythm with your breath. Do this 3 times to give your mind, emotions, and body a chance to respond.
As for the prayer itself, it is an assertive statement. God is your hope and confidence above anything else. You have roots in Him.
For clarification, I added the last line of this centering prayer, I trust the Lord.
If you noticed, I said, I trust the Lord”. I did not say, I will trust the Lord. Using the word "will" is future tense. You want to exert trust in God in the moment that you are reciting these words. This statement affects you and the spiritual world around you. Even more when you say it aloud.
Especially as we enter the holiday season. I can remember from my childhood appliances that quit working, water leaks, my sister’s bed kept breaking apart, my dad lost his job.
If it can happen, it will during the holidays. This is a prayer that can recenter you and give you emotional equilibrium.
Try this centering prayer practice and tell me what you think.
Until next time,
